Coady's never met his father. Hell, he doesn't even know the guy's name. His mother, Julia, was married once, for five years, and that's when she had Jakob, her first son. They got divorced when Jakob was four, and Jakob hasn't seen him since. Five years later, she had a boyfriend for about two months, and Coady's older sister Rae was the product of that relationship. Two years later, there was a drunken night, and that resulted in Coady. His mother has had two children since then, Nathan and Logan, both resulting from relationships that didn't last long.
Coady's mother has to work three jobs to support all of her children, so Coady and Rae were mostly raised by Jakob. Now that Jakob has moved out of the house, and Rae is busy being a senior (parties, sex, college tours, parties, homework), it's Coady's job to raise his younger brothers, who are twelve and six.
Being the third of five children with a mother that was always busy with work, Coady has always had to fight for attention from anyone. He had to be loud, funny, and completely outrageous all the time to get any recognition. Hell, his mother didn't even know he could play guitar and sing. She didn't even know about his fame on youtube and myspace. So he wasn't exactly an attention whore; he just got so used to fighting for attention at home that he didn't realize he didn't have to fight for it outside of his family.
Having an absent mother did have its perks, though. While the Winston home never hosted parties, it was certainly the most laid-back hang out place in town. Any of Coady's friends could come over, have a beer, smoke a bowl, spend the night if they wanted to. His mother was rarely home, and if she was, the only thing she really cared about was that Coady's younger brothers didn't see anything inappropriate, and that they were quiet enough for her to sleep. Hell, his mom walked in on him having sex more times than he could count on both hands, and all she cared about was that he was being safe. She couldn't afford to feed the mouths of his flavor of the week and her baby if there was an accident.
Coady started making videos his freshman year, thinking no one would watch them. It was almost his alternative to an online diary. When he started getting viewers, he started spicing things up, posting things like: himself and a few of his friends having a 'deep' (AKA stoned) conversation about global warming, himself skateboarding off of his roof, a few songs he'd written, and many other things. After a few months, he started posting weekly 'The Lion Dish' videos, where he told 'anonymous' gossip stories. He was an overnight success, and by the time he posted his second 'Lion Dish' video, most of the school had subscribed to his channel.
Coady doesn't like labels. He doesn't like to label his sexuality (because really, it was nobody's business who he was fucking, anyway) or himself. He hangs out with everyone, and people think of him as an odd cocktail of THE ARTSY KIDS, THE SLACKERS, THE PARTIERS, THE SCENESTERS, andTHE TROUBLEMAKERS.
He's not exactly sure how they managed it, but this year, he applied for a foreign exchange student, and amazingly, they were approved and THE BRITISH INVASION now lives with them. Coady isn't exactly thrilled about having him there. Sure, he likes the guy enough, but he's a little freaked out by having a stranger in his house, no matter how nice he seems to be.
Having a tattoo artist for an older brother was definitely one of his favorite things about his family. He's definitely a fan of body art, and not only does his brother give him as many tattoos as he wants, he also hooked him up with someone to pierce his lip and... other areas that only people that have slept with him know about.
Coady's grades are decent, considering he's never done a homework assignment. He's one of those smart kids that can fall asleep in class and still make a 100 on his tests, so all of the kids in his classes kind of hate him for that, and anyone who doesn't know him is 100% sure he's stupid and just cheats on all of his tests.
Coady is into everything artistic. He likes to draw, and designs all of his own tattoos. He also likes to make sculptures out of weird objects around the house, and even make food art when he packs his lunch for school, in the japanese style of a bento. He also cuts his brothers' and sister's hair, as well as his own, and he likes to think he's pretty good at it. He even modifies most of his clothes, since they're boring, for the most part. His mom can't afford to buy him 'cool' or 'interesting' clothes, so it's his job to make them cool.
Coady is a vegetarian, and has been since he was 10. He's primarily a vegan, but he can't deny himself a piece of cheesecake when it's put in front of him.
Coady's number one goal is getting out of Lake City and moving to New York, Chicago, or L.A. He wants to live the Big City life, but not as a starving artist. He wants to be famous. Somewhere, deep down, he feels like fame will fill the void in him not really having an active parent caused. That's probably the reason he sleeps with everyone he dates, or anyone attractive and willing, really. He didn't think of himself as a slut, just a free spirit. But if he's honest, it's all just him trying to find love in any way possible. Even if that love only lasts a few hours.
Coady smokes one pack of Marlboro Reds and one pack of Djarum Blacks a day, claiming he smokes two types of cigarettes because he needs some variety in his 'cancer-flavored air'.
Coady makes his cigarette, gas, weed, and beer money working nights at the Shell Station on his street. He works nights because that's the only time his mother is home.
Likes: Mexican food (particularly potato enchiladas), japanese food, cigarettes (especially cloves), Smirnoff Ice, Yuengling, weed, clear rolling papers, hookahs, cheesy chick flicks, indie music, vampires, werewolves, zombies, aliens, water, wine, rice, scene girls, nerdy boys, acoustic guitars, Retarded Cop, little dogs, ridiculously big dogs, wearing cut-off jeans in the Summer, kissing in the rain, finding really cool clothes at the consignment clothing store.
